Tom Van Laan is a serial entrepreneur and software executive with over 35 years of experience building engineering technology companies. He has held leadership roles at Bechtel, Ebasco Services, and Intergraph, and served as CEO of COADE, Inc., a leading developer of engineering software for the plant and process industry, for more than 15 years. He is currently the Founder and CEO of CloudCalc, Inc., a Houston-based provider of cloud-based structural analysis software, which he founded in 2014 after pioneering the application of cloud computing to engineering workflows.

Beyond his operating roles, Tom has invested in over 40 startups and served as a mentor at SURGE Accelerator, which focuses on software innovation in the energy sector. He is a member of the New York Institute of Technology Board of Trustees, where he is the co-chair of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Committee, and of the Dean's Executive Advisory Board at the New York Institute of Technology's College of Engineering and Computing Sciences, where he has helped establish an Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center.  He is also a published author, having written Piping and Pipe Support Systems: Design and Engineering.​
